Kaiser Workers – Strike Imminent! – Worker Actions on 10/5 in Vallejo and Vacaville

The largest health care workers strike in US history is now imminent as negotiations have stalled with Kaiser Permanente. SEIU-UHW, in coordination with the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions (CKPU) representing over 75,000 union members across California and the Western US, has gained Strike Sanction from this Labor Council and is preparing to mobilize for action.

Despite extensive profits and the on-going crises of the broader health care system, Kaiser has not bargained to meet the demands of the workers to improve staffing levels and to take other measures to retain health care workers. This is detrimental to workers and patients alike, and the time to stand is now! Pending any final negotiations, current contracts with the union workers will expire tomorrow.

We are asking all affiliates to come as able to the Strike Rallies scheduled for next Thursday, 10/5 in Vallejo and Vacaville. RSVP here – https://forms.gle/pYTtdbq6fR7GFQhZ7

Benicia Save Our Streets Measure – Volunteers and Petitions Needed

In the city of Benicia, labor and community allies are coming together to invest in safe and modern roads and streets across his community. This proposed measure, under the campaign of Benicia Save our Streets (SOS), is in need of petition signatures to qualify it for the March 2024 Election. It will raise funds exclusively for the repair, maintenance, and improvement of roads, streets, and connected sidewalks and storm drains via a 0.5% sales tax. The Labor Council has endorsed this Measure, and we are in need of volunteers over the next few weeks to help get those signatures. We are also conducting a campaign to reach union voters across Benicia.

ADEMs Elections – Labor Representation in the California Democratic Party and Beyond

This January there will be important Elections to vote for local Delegates to the California Democratic Party (CDP). These Elections are divided by State Assembly Districts, known as ADEMs, and elect 14 delegates, including 1 to the CDP’s Executive Board.

A combination of Democratic and labor activists have formed a slate, the Progressive Workers Alliance, that is running to represent Assembly District 11. This slate will bring together labor, progressives, and the many segments of the Democratic Party to find common interest across movement lines and work to advance the principles of economic justice, human rights, the defense of democracy, and advancing the issues important to our local communities. This Slate has been endorsed by the Napa-Solano Central Labor Council, and we encourage all members who are registered Democrats in Assembly Districts 4 and 11 to register to vote at in-person locations on Saturday, January 22nd (see information below).
