Good evening labor and community leaders and activists,
Our labor siblings and fellow workers at NUHW are now in an open-ended strike with Kaiser Permanente.
As Covid accelerated the underlying and pervasive issues of mental health and healthcare access overall, matters were only made worse with Kaiser Permanente’s on-going refusal to properly fund its mental health divisions. As a result, patients can now go months without the proper appointments and care for mental health issues, all while the various psychologists, therapists, and social workers must struggle to provide these services as best as they can. This is an injustice to workers and our broader communities alike.
Attached is a flyer outlining the various strike actions in front of Kaiser facilities occurring across the Bay Area. Specifically, the following are occurring over the next week within Solano County-
All strike actions are occurring 6 AM – 2 PM
Vacaville – Tomorrow 8/18, Tuesday 8/23, Thursday 8/25 – Vacaville Medical Center, 1 Quality Drive
Vallejo – Monday 8/22, Wednesday 8/24, Friday 8/26 – Vallejo Medical Center, 975 Sereno Drive
We will update with further actions and information as needed.
Our essential workers served to save lives and support all of us through this crisis, and we stand in solidarity with them now. We ask our fellow labor unions and community allies to join the NUHW workers at the strike-likes to demand justice for the workers and in health care!
